Brief Summary: I designed and delivered a 45-minute professional development workshop for college faculty and staff to increase the adoption and effective use of our institution's licensed Adobe Express software.
Role: Workshop Designer & Facilitator, Instructional Designer, Graphic Designer
Tools Used: Adobe Express, Articulate Storyline, Microsoft Forms, Google Docs, Google Gemini
I observed that many colleagues were using external design tools like Canva (some even paying for premium subscriptions!) despite our institution providing a full Adobe Creative Cloud license. This represented a significant underutilized asset and a missed opportunity. I identified a clear need for training to bridge this awareness gap, empower our staff and faculty with superior tools, and improve the overall quality of our institutional materials.
To address this need, I developed a comprehensive workshop from the ground up, following a systematic design process.
Instructional Design Model: I applied the principles of Backwards Design, starting with the desired outcomes and crafting the learning objectives first.
Learning Objectives: With Google Gemini as a brainstorming partner, I developed three clear objectives for the session:
Identify the key features of Adobe Express and articulate its benefits.
Create a professional-quality flyer and presentation.
Apply fundamental accessibility principles within the tool.
Promotional Materials: I created an engaging promotional flyer in Adobe Express to generate interest and model the tool's capabilities.
Workshop Presentation: I developed a professional slide deck to guide the live session.
Interactive Handout: Using Articulate Storyline, I designed an interactive digital handout to serve as a sustainable, paperless resource for attendees.
Measuring Impact: I created a feedback survey using Microsoft Forms to measure the workshop's effectiveness against the learning objectives and to gather qualitative feedback for future improvements.
